VC Vacuum Insulated Glass — High-Efficiency Thermal Insulation Glass for Extreme Environments

The Most Thermally Efficient Glass You Can Specify

City Star Glass is proud to present our VC Glass series — premium vacuum insulated glass engineered for buildings that demand the absolute highest thermal performance. With heat insulation of 95% and insulating efficiency of 90%, VC Glass is a game-changer for passive houses, sunrooms, research facilities, and buildings in extremely cold climates.

Unlike standard insulated glass units (IGUs) that rely on an air or argon gas cavity, VC Glass uses a near-perfect vacuum between two panes of tempered glass — eliminating conductive and convective heat transfer almost entirely. The result: a glass panel as thin as 5mm + 0.3mm vacuum + 5mm Low-E that delivers thermal performance equivalent to a 1-meter-thick brick wall.

How Vacuum Glass Works

The VC Glass construction is elegant in its simplicity:

  1. Tempered Glass (outer pane) — structural safety layer

  2. Low-E film coating — reflects infrared heat while allowing visible light through

  3. Micro-support pillars — tiny spacers that maintain the vacuum gap against atmospheric pressure

  4. Vacuum cavity (0.3mm) — a near-perfect vacuum that eliminates heat conduction and convection

  5. Getter material — absorbs residual gases over the product's lifetime, maintaining the vacuum

  6. Edge sealing material — hermetically seals the vacuum cavity for long-term performance

  7. Tempered Glass (inner pane) — second structural safety layer

Because there is no gas inside the cavity, there is no air to conduct heat or carry sound. This is what gives VC Glass its extraordinary thermal and acoustic performance — far beyond what conventional double or triple glazing can achieve.

Key Performance Features

More Secure

The surface stress across the VC Glass pane exceeds 90MPa, and the wind pressure resistance reaches +7200Pa. Both glass plies are tempered safety glass, meeting building code requirements for exterior glazing in high-wind and seismic regions.

Size Worry Free

A single VC Glass panel can reach up to 1.5m × 2.5m — large enough for most window, curtain wall, and sunroom applications. Standard sizes are 1500×2000mm, with maximum dimensions of 2000×3000mm available for project orders.

Sound Insulation

VC Glass delivers weighted sound insulation of 39dB. Because sound does not propagate through vacuum, the acoustic performance is based on the inherent properties of the glass rather than gas filling — meaning consistent noise reduction across a wide range of frequencies. Ideal for buildings near airports, highways, railway lines, and urban centers.

Works at Any Angle

Unlike gas-filled insulated units, VC Glass performance is not affected by the change in gas thermal conductivity when placed horizontally or at an angle. This makes it suitable for skylights, sloped glazing, overhead canopies, and pitched roof applications.

Anti-Condensation

There is no gas inside the VC Glass cavity, which means even when outdoor temperatures drop to -40°C, the inner surface will not condense or frost. This is a critical advantage for cold-climate buildings, ice rinks, refrigerated facilities, and any application where condensation causes maintenance issues or aesthetic problems.

Superior Thermal Insulation

VC Glass achieves a heat transfer coefficient (U-value) as low as 0.4 W/(m²·K) — significantly reducing energy loss and building energy consumption. The thermal insulation effect is equivalent to more than 1 meter of thick brick wall — that is 4 to 16 times more insulating than ordinary single glazing.

Long Service Life

The VC Glass is constructed from all-glass material, with internal support pillars and Low-E film, fully sealed with advanced edge technology. The vacuum layer is a permanently sealed hollow glass unit — designed to maintain its vacuum over decades of service, far outlasting standard gas-filled IGUs that gradually lose their gas fill.

Consistent Quality

Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality system certification, with rigorous factory audits by Bosch Home Appliances to ensure every piece of VC Glass meets exacting standards. Every panel is also backed by PICC quality assurance insurance for added peace of mind.

Where VC Glass Excels

Sun Rooms & Conservatories

VC Glass is the perfect glazing for sunrooms and conservatories. In winter, it traps solar heat inside and prevents it from escaping — creating a comfortable, warm space without excessive heating costs. In summer, the Low-E coating reflects unwanted solar heat, keeping the space cool and reducing overheating.

Research Bases & Laboratories

Scientific research facilities, greenhouse laboratories, and controlled-environment agriculture facilities demand precise temperature stability. VC Glass maintains interior temperatures with minimal fluctuation — protecting sensitive experiments, plant specimens, and equipment from external temperature swings.

Extremely Cold Regions

For buildings in subarctic, alpine, or polar climates, VC Glass eliminates the need for triple glazing or thick curtain wall systems. Its anti-condensation performance down to -40°C means no frozen windows, no fogged glass, and no icy buildup on interior surfaces — critical for comfort and safety in extreme cold.

Passive Houses & Green Buildings

VC Glass helps achieve passive house certification standards with its ultra-low U-value. It contributes directly to LEED, BREEAM, and Green Star rating points by reducing heating and cooling energy demand dramatically.

Residential Windows & Doors

Upgrade residential windows to VC Glass for year-round comfort — quieter interiors, warmer winters, cooler summers, and no condensation on window panes. The slim profile also means more natural light and thinner sightlines compared to bulky triple-glazed alternatives.

Commercial Curtain Walls

High-performance office buildings and commercial facades benefit from VC Glass's thermal efficiency — reducing HVAC loads and creating comfortable interior conditions near the glass perimeter.
